proudly presents: BROWNMAN's ACOUSTIC..&..ELECTRYC TRIOs "Journey through time from the hard swinging sounds of Duke, Chet & Ella to the funkified sounds of today, served up by the 2007 National Jazz Award winners for "Electric Jazz Group of the Year". Recently returning to Toronto from touring Japan with Guru's Jazzmatazz and only back in the city for 3 weeks before continuing on tour in Europe, the Trinidadian-born multi-award winning jazz trumpeter brings his highly successful "Art of The Trio" show to H.O.T., showcasing his love for 2 of his favourite jazz idioms - mainstream hard-swinging jazz & electrified funk/hip-hop in the chordless trio setting he so enjoys working in. When asked why mount such a series again, Brown replies, "it's not often I get to explore both of these textures in the specific chordless [no piano or guitar] trio setting, let alone in a single night". He leads 7 groups of his own, 4 of them - unsurprisingly - are chordless including his now internationally acclaimed latin-jazz-urban outfit CRUZAO and his hip-hop-jazz crew GRUVASYLUM. |

presents: BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO featuring Brownman - electric trumpet Tyler Emond - 6-string electric bass Jeff Halischuk - drums -- JazzOnline writes: "Nick "Brownman" Ali's powerful trio captures the essence of the later years in Miles Davis' life, his electric period, without imitation. Brownman's ELECTRYC TRIO is uniquely his own, yet echoes with the sounds of ‘Bitches Brew’ and ‘In a Silent Way’ right down to Miles’ use of electronics while still managing to stay grounded in the sounds of today, clearly paying apt tribute to Brownman's NYC mentor Randy Brecker. Impressive." |
