Subject: 2005 BEST JAZZ ARTIST - NOW Magazine reader's poll award Date: Tue, 01 Nov 2005 14:31:10 -0500 From: The BROWNMAN Organization: Brownman Music Inc. -- http://www.brownman.com To: Brownman's Big Ass Mailing List Hey gang, And a big welcome to all those new on the Big Ass Mailing List. NOW Magazine - Oct 27, 2005: ---------------------------------------------------- Brownman voted Toronto's 2005 BEST JAZZ ARTIST in NOW Magazine's "Best of Toronto" Awards See the official Press Release: http://brownman.com/PressReleases/NowAward-Oct27-2005_v13.PDF ---------------------------------------------------- So this is a fast email to simply and plainly say THANK YOU TORONTO!! I had no idea this was even happening and that there was even a public vote going down... with all the hub-bub surrounding prepping for the Havana Jazz Fest (fund-raiser Nov 20 @ Lula!!) and subsequent tour, I had no idea. I actually missed the fancy ceremony cuz I was in a recording session with reggathon producer Sensei (FITO BLANKO's main man). So to those on the Mailing List that voted - my deepest thanks... to all of Toronto in fact. Knocks me on my ass to receive this "people's choice" type award based on public votes. *wiping tear*. I'd like to thank my mom... and Allah... and my pet tarantula Jake... and the Acadamy... and Jesus... (always good to thank Jesus... yano, in case he shows up, you wanna be able to say you thanked him that time)... and Satan... (always good to thank Satan, cuz Jesus and Allah both know he's been a very influential for me musically)... and, uh... my mom... did I thank her already?... And I should probably thank... ================================================================ >From Press Release: ================================================================ Brownman selected as Toronto's 2005 BEST JAZZ ARTIST in NOW Magazine's "Best of Toronto" Awards The people, not the purists, have spoken. NOW Magazine, Toronto's favourite and most comprehensive source for information on the music that makes the city tick, have chosen Trinidadian-Canadian, NYC-schooled trumpet icon Nick "Brownman" Ali as Best Jazz Artist in the 2005 Best of Toronto Awards. ================================================================ >From the NOW magazine: ================================================================ 2005 BEST JAZZ ARTIST: Nick "Brownman" Ali Nick "Brownman" Ali is a renegade, a tireless trumpeter whose outspokenness on his genre's scene - to the dismay of those he's pissed off - has only increased his profile as one of the city's most intrepid jazz figures. Of course, the Toronto-based Trinidadian would be nowhere without his tireless, multi-faceted approach (Ali leads six bands), broad cultural span and innovative sensibility. While snobby jazz purists may turn up their noses, Ali continues to embody the music's true spirit. ================================================================ *laughing* NOW magazine is so dramatic - you gotta love'em. That write-up should have a pic of me in army fatigues with an M16 on stage at Lula or something... Don't get me wrong - I'm honoured by the accolade, I really am... it's the imagery that makes me giggle.... giggle in a manly gun-toting renagade-like fashion of course.
