Subject: This Brown week... (Week of Oct 10th) Date: Mon, 10 Oct 2005 12:08:50 -0400 From: The BROWNMAN Organization: Brownman Music Inc. -- http://www.brownman.com To: Brownman's Big Ass Mailing List Hey guys, And a big welcome to all those new to the Big Ass Mailing List. So this week's a busy one and features some of the finest drummers in the country - a different one each day! (more below). Tonight CHIVA's at Trane studio for all those who are sick of turkey and could use some latin-jazz in your lives. The pilgrams were Chiva fans... they told me so (more below). Some big things not to miss at month's end -> Oct 21 - special MARRON MATIZADO presentation, Oct 22 - ALI BROS feat. Phat Al & Enlight, and next month -> Nov 20 - CRUZAO fundraiser to get Marc, myself and drummer Stich Wynston to Cuba to participate in the Havana Jazz Festival (please come and support Canadian jazz artists out of country!). I'll list a short version - then a more detailed synopsis of each gig below - but first.... ========================================================== FIVE WEEKS FOR MILES concludes for another year ========================================================== My deepest, most heartfelt thanks to those bazillion of you that came out to the ground-shaking FIVE WEEKS FOR MILES series that wonderously dominated my life all Sept. It was truly a humbling experience to spend a month inside the mind of Miles' genius and I was so thrilled to see so many of you come out, support live jazz in Toronto and be part of what was recently called "a historic event in Canadian jazz". Thank you guys, truly. My publicist Sebastian is collecting comments and remarks about those five evenings of magic for both the site and the press kit - so if you'd like to write in (seb@brownman.com), tell him what night(s) you were there, your age and all about what you thought and felt, we'd appreciate it. A quote from you may just appear on the site somewhere! And we'd like to hear from all of you be it a sentence or a novel - but *particularly* you Virginia Markson - who attended ALL FIVE shows and at the young age of 64 was the oldest person in attendence... and grooved her ass off five weeks in a row! I'd like to say a special thank you to Virginia's young 19 year old bass playing son Ben Miller (Pat Kilbride's prized student) who could do nothing at the conclusion of Week 5 but stammer "Brown... I uh... oh man... that was... I uh... I can't really... oh man...", he then hugged me... and left. I think he liked the gig. I think. I can only imagine what he said to Pat Kilbride, his teacher and mentor... whom at the end of the show, after hearing some of the most ridiculous bass playing *I've* EVER heard... could only stammer "Pat... I uh... oh man... that was... I uh... I can't really... oh man...", I then hugged him... and wet my pants. I like Ben's approach better. ========================================================== AT A GLANCE: ========================================================== Mon Oct 10 - CHIVA @ Trane Studio [Afro-Colombian latin-jazz] (Every Mon) Tue Oct 11 - NICK ALI TRIO hosts Rex Jam [modern jazz] Wed Oct 12 - ELECTRYC TRIO @ Trane Studio [electric eclectic jazz] (Every Wed) Fri Oct 13 - NICK ALI TRIO @ Dominion On Queen [feat. His hard sense of swing and his deep pocket are gonna be the driving force behind night 2 at the Dominion. And by the way - Dominion on Queen - doesn't that sound like a grocery store gig? Like we're in Aisle 5 beside the canned goods? It's in fact a gorgeous jazz club just east of Queen... but I can't help but wonder how they're produce department is...
